Congratulations to all members who took part in this year’s Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions in the Peak District. We’re delighted to announce that all three teams, including our two qualifying teams and our practice team, successfully passed their expeditions following an outstanding 4 days of challenge, adventure and achievement.
Based at Gradbach Scout Camp, participants completed demanding routes across some of the Peak District’s most iconic landscapes, including Kinder Scout, Hen Cloud, The Roaches, and the hills surrounding Buxton. Throughout the expedition, teams demonstrated the resilience, determination and teamwork that are at the heart of the Gold DofE Award.
Over the course of the expedition, participants put a wide range of skills into practice, including:
- Navigation and route planning
- Mountain walking and expedition fitness
- Campcraft and camp management
- Outdoor cooking and ration planning
- Teamwork and leadership
- Problem solving and decision making
- Risk management and safety awareness
- Time management and self-sufficiency
- Communication and teamwork under pressure
The expedition also benefited from excellent weather conditions, allowing teams to fully enjoy the stunning scenery of the Peak District while tackling the challenges of the routes. Long days on the hills, clear views across the moorland and plenty of sunshine made for a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Gold DofE expeditions are designed to push participants outside their comfort zones, requiring commitment, perseverance and independence. Every member should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. Successfully completing a Gold expedition is a significant milestone and reflects the hard work and preparation put in by all involved.
A huge thank you goes to Clair, Sean, Craig and Linda for volunteering their time and expertise to plan, support and run the expedition. Their dedication ensured the teams were able to undertake the challenge safely while gaining the most from the experience.
