Last night saw Shackleton ESU enjoy one of our most relaxed and sociable camps of the year with a brilliant sleepover at 4th Worth. A refreshing contrast to our usual mountain and expedition-based camps, this one was all about fun, friendship and taking things at an easy pace.
The afternoon began with a mix of light outdoor adventure and skills. Explorers took part in geocaching, putting their navigation and teamwork to the test as they searched for hidden caches around the area. As the evening drew in, attention turned to fire lighting, giving everyone the chance to practice their skills before settling down together.
With fires going, it was time for food. S’mores were a big hit as always, followed by takeaway pizza which kept everyone well fuelled for the rest of the night. The rest of the evening was packed with karaoke and Wii Sports, with plenty of laughter, friendly competition and lots of partying that carried on until late.
After a lively night, the morning was intentionally slow and relaxed. Explorers enjoyed an easy start to the day before tucking into sausage sandwiches for breakfast. A calm and comfortable end to the camp before heading home.
This sleepover was a great reminder that not every camp has to involve big hills, long walks or heavy packs. Sometimes the best camps are the relaxed ones, focused on spending time together and enjoying the simple things. A brilliant camp and a big thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.
